Hackers [1995] Boot up or shut up...

Plot:
A young boy is arrested by the US Secret Service for writing a computer virus and is banned from using a computer until his 18th birthday. Years later, he and his new-found friends discover a plot to unleash a dangerous computer virus, but they must use their computer skills to find the evidence while being pursued by the Secret Service and the evil computer genius behind the virus.

Review:

This movie’s all about greatness. The plot and the music score both are excellent but the acting is a little bad. {Psst, there’s AJ in this…}.

One of the bad things about this movie is that they have stressed a bit too much on the clothes of hackers, they’ve made them look totally different for a purpose I dont understand.

I like the part when Dade and Kate compete with each other and try to ruin their common enemy’s life. That part was really humorous. Also, the way they show the data of the worm is funny, cause it went beyond my imagination. Of course they cant show just numbers scrolling on screen like what The Matrix did, so its okay. Just that after reading its movie tie-in book 3 years back, I didn’t imagine it to be such. The background music provided has a feel like The Animatrix, just better, its a definite get-get! The movie’s overall average on acting, but what else can you expect from an old movie with nearly amateur actors except the lead two.

Score – 8/10
[+1s for all factors except acting and other small glitches in the movie.]

Recommendation: I recommend anyone who knows what his/her computer’s on the inside this a must watch. And also for you Angelina Jolie fans out there. So, go get it!

  1. I guess most exciting part of the movie for you was AJ, or was it MJ wearing her mask? You never know.

  2. Who is MJ? AJ was a new actress by that time, her acts werent convincing at all but it was a decent job. Am not so much of a fan or something. :P

    You’re a 21 year old provoking kid as well, cause you provoke, at least try to :P

    And am happy with my parents, don’t need some girl with a chameleon for a husband to adopt me :P

  9. Hackers was made in fear of the seemingly cryptic view of hacking. When you have you don’t see all the things they saw, you see code. Example? Here’s a very basic C code.
    #include
    int main()
    {
    printf(“All this does is open a black window and writes this.”);
    getchar();
    }

    That wasn’t that bad, was it? That’s a very basic view of hacking, nothing Godly, but not exactly an easy task. It’s just infecting someone by making them download it (easy if you know them, practically impossible if you don’t). Nothing like what this movie suggests.
    Overall, I give this movie a 7/10, average storyline, average outcome, but what makes it stand out is its proof that hackers aren’t bad, the people who choose to use the skills wrongly are.
