A confusion of Media Players for Videos

with 13 comments

If you explore the Internet out there, you will probably come across a dozen self ?best? claiming media players for your videos. Here?s some of the best among the best out there.

The hit list is:

By my experience, the best among these will be Media Player Classic, and VLC for the second place, followed by GOM for the third. Rest just aren?t worth it at all. MPC with all codecs installed will play anything and everything about media there is. It sure does look crappy, but then, when some argue VLC is the best, you never mention its crappiness do you? I say VLC is lower than MPC because it uses slightly more memory and takes extra time starting a video thanks to its long detection process. GOM Player, which boasts of playing all media does a decent job but not as good as MPC or VLC which allow scrolling even in files that don?t allow it and read choppy media perfectly enough. Winamp and Real Player aren?t fit for playing anything but music and .RM files respectively, they just lack the charm and power of other media players out there. Windows Media Player sucks so bad that it doesn?t even scroll WMV sometimes, let alone other videos. And its error reading factor is the most stupidest ever, it just hangs even if the video has a small part broken, you just have to Ctrl+Alt+Del from there to get out.

So anytime, MPC is the way to go, it?s got all, subtitles, audio boost, audio sync, DivX/Xvid/MOV/RM, and what not? MPC + Codecs FTW anyday.

For Codec packs, if you can find K-Lite, its good, else you can of course try others like Nimo, Matroska, Codec Pack All in 1, etc… Just Google for ‘codec packs’ and you’ll find many good ones.

  1. Hail thy MPC, Hail thy K-lite Codec Packs.

I dont need anything else. MPC beats VLC ass too. VLC doesnt play real media, so you need another client for that. Biggest disadvantage! Its all about playing everything. VLC is very rigid and video/audio time line is very …lets say buggy. Doesnt offer precise control.. frame by frame as in MPC using arrow keys.

MPC Rocks! I dont have words to describe it.

  3. My fav is Crystal Player.
    http://www.crystalplayer.com/

Main reasons are its video and audio filters. Also other small things like bookmarking (i.e. if I close the player after playing a file till certain point, when i open that file again it can resume from where i left), subtitle delay. If proper codecs are installed if plays quicktime as well as real videos.

I am very surprised to see winamp in that list. Winamp sucks as far as video playback is concerned. I would instead recomend KMPlayer.
