Why is Ubuntu so damn addictive, why?! I spent a few days downloading these ‘good’ Linux distributions like SUSE 10.1 and Fedora Core 6 and I just cant stand their stupidness in front of Ubuntu. By stupidness I mean lack of pre-configured stuff and need of the user to configure many things. Its not really a pain to do all the customizations required for a smooth Linux operation but since I have seen Ubuntu which comes pre-configured to be lovable by all, I just get frustrated to see a distribution like Fedora, which is on a DVD unlike Ubuntu’s CD act so dumb waiting for user to do everything. Really wastes time if you ask me.
So yesterday I hoped to shift to Fedora Core 6 which was like a 3.6 GB download, all hopes failed as great as it failed to give my Keyboard’s extra keys some recognition, and the package manager ‘yum‘ is so slow as hell, ‘YaST‘ of SUSE is another thing, it beats ‘yum‘ in being slow. The Ubuntu’s apt-get is ultra fast in executing and downloading applications and installing it is a breeze after that.
I just simply cant stand SUSE’s slowness, its not even like my hardware’s slow, the applications open quick but process very very slowly, like sipping boiling tea. I dont know what the hell the applications do while executing, but its all slow as watching the sun go up between 4-6 AM [ Was awake installing the distribution
].
And for guides, I didn’t find a decent guide to Fedora or SUSE as I did for Ubuntu here and here. These new distributions are just hopeless, but for Ubuntu. Its like they don’t need migrators.
Comparing neatness, SUSE must take the crown with its attractive desktops and Fedora’s simplicity, Ubuntu’s brown doesn’t go down well with all actually but it is customizable.
So go get Ubuntu as a distribution provided your hardware’s like, popular in stores. Hardware issues with a Linux distribution sucks, really really bad. Thank my old hardware I got no issues, yet.
[Oh my god, They killed Kenny!]
And I’ve just started watching Lost, going good.
