Damn the #1 Linux Distro On Earth – Ubuntu

Why is Ubuntu so damn addictive, why?! I spent a few days downloading these ‘good’ Linux distributions like SUSE 10.1 and Fedora Core 6 and I just cant stand their stupidness in front of Ubuntu. By stupidness I mean lack of pre-configured stuff and need of the user to configure many things. Its not really a pain to do all the customizations required for a smooth Linux operation but since I have seen Ubuntu which comes pre-configured to be lovable by all, I just get frustrated to see a distribution like Fedora, which is on a DVD unlike Ubuntu’s CD act so dumb waiting for user to do everything. Really wastes time if you ask me.

So yesterday I hoped to shift to Fedora Core 6 which was like a 3.6 GB download, all hopes failed as great as it failed to give my Keyboard’s extra keys some recognition, and the package manager ‘yum‘ is so slow as hell, ‘YaST‘ of SUSE is another thing, it beats ‘yum‘ in being slow. The Ubuntu’s apt-get is ultra fast in executing and downloading applications and installing it is a breeze after that.

I just simply cant stand SUSE’s slowness, its not even like my hardware’s slow, the applications open quick but process very very slowly, like sipping boiling tea. I dont know what the hell the applications do while executing, but its all slow as watching the sun go up between 4-6 AM [ Was awake installing the distribution :P ].

And for guides, I didn’t find a decent guide to Fedora or SUSE as I did for Ubuntu here and here. These new distributions are just hopeless, but for Ubuntu. Its like they don’t need migrators.

Comparing neatness, SUSE must take the crown with its attractive desktops and Fedora’s simplicity, Ubuntu’s brown doesn’t go down well with all actually but it is customizable.

So go get Ubuntu as a distribution provided your hardware’s like, popular in stores. Hardware issues with a Linux distribution sucks, really really bad. Thank my old hardware I got no issues, yet. :P

[Oh my god, They killed Kenny!]

And I’ve just started watching Lost, going good. :P

Need For Speed: Carbon

At first, I didn?t have a clue about why ?Carbon? ?
Underground was well, underground racing and Most Wanted was yeah, Police?s most wanted? but why Carbon?

Apparently it?s related to the map of the game called ?Carbon Canyon?. And I was thinking it was something to do with those ugly Carbon Fiber car bodies and parts available in the recent Need For Speed games.

Anyway, so I downloaded the demo and installed it. Large demo package, around 650 MB, whoa!

And?

Hell, it doesn?t run well, it looks something like this in fact.

And if I race in it, it would be an experience like this video at YouTube most probably.

I don?t think I am gonna buy a new upgrade to my MX 4000 for this game but sigh, it has the drift racing. I guess am gonna install Underground 2 again and play that all over again.

Site – EA Games

Demo – [Link] [Mirrors]

For the full game, I don’t know about its official release yet but I did see some near 3.9 GB files hanging around torrent sites.

I feel bad not being able to play this. :(

Issues with Linux

I?ve been trying, trying really hard, last 2 months to make a permanent migratory solution towards Linux from Windows XP. But still there are issues that nag me a lot, I just cant find anything related to fix them or learn them.

A few of my migratory problems are,
1.??? I can?t successfully burn CDs or DVDs at all; they fail each time with all the stuff I try, K3B, Gnome Baker or even Nautilus.
2.??? I can?t play these old .rm [Real Media] South Park files, just don?t know what codec to install, the real player says its retarded, I mean the file?s retarded and it wont play. Some videos chop, maybe its my hardware but on Windows, Media Player Classic plays them all smooth as my monitor?s surface. Even 1080p HD plays nice on XP. It loses frames on Linux.
3.??? Can?t find a decent Music player that shows an album view with Art icons on it, I am addicted to it like any drug-addict would be. Damn WMP 11 for that.
4.??? It doesn?t still configure stuff for my USB-Cable connection to Mobile. I can see that it detects a Nokia 6681 but I don?t know how to use that.
5.??? The GIMP seriously sucks in its interface windows, for a person low on art but used to Photoshop?s interface, this sucks migrating to.
6.??? Open Office is sometimes very low on intelligence. I added a new word to the dictionary as auto replace and some times where I need the first letter to be capital; it replaces it by a small lettered one. Just frustrating sometimes.

Looks like its not me alone with issues, Karthik here, with a spanking new AM2 board and AMD X2 processor, suffers not being able to install Linux itself, and he?s finding no support for his board?s Ethernet and Graphics either. Good luck to him.
