Results for all (even) 8th (Eighth and Final) semester B.E. and B.Tech (Engineering Degrees, for IT, CSE, ECE, EEE, ME, E&I, etc.) are out These are for the exams that were held in April to May 2010.

Results for all odd semesters B.E. and B.Tech (Engineering Degrees, for IT, CSE, ECE, EEE, ME, E&I, etc.) (3rd, 5th, 7th) will be out in the ultimate weeks of December 2009, as most rumors go (Some point around the first week of January 2010~). These are for the exams that were held in Nov to Dec 2009.

Combine the power of such high inflation rates with the power of large prime numbers as prices of various products and you might just have the best mathematicians coming from Zimbabwe soon. “That’ll be the 1565927th prime or 24999983 dollars please.”

Why do they do this?

Of course, Somalia would need more focus first. That country badly needs prosperity if it is to have any citizens left over the next few years. The plight of these countries sometimes makes me think colonialism is not bad at all. War, poverty, hunger, gah.

Odd days

There are days where you wake up normally, read about some violence, politics and gossip. There are other days where you wake up to stuff like this.

Anyways, my semester exams are nearing and here are the announced dates for B.Tech IT (The course I am in)

Anna University Timetable for U.G. (B.Tech IT) 5th semester

06/11/08 – Telecommunication Systems
10/11/08 – Database Management Systems [DBMS]
13/11/08 – Object Oriented Analysis and Design [OOAD]
17/11/08 – Operating Systems [OS]
20/11/08 – Computer Networks
24/11/08 – Environmental Science and Engineering [EVS]

The resulting pattern is oddly nice, 3-2-3-2-3 day gaps.

I’ve been busy being lazy lately, and very lazy indeed. Though I managed to finish up my lab work and other things, I’ve not written down even a small function for self’s sake. While resolving that now, I’ve also moved from Gentoo to ArchLinux having learnt enough and wanting a functional distro now rather than a testing one.

Arch is very fast at installing things, too fast to even compare it with something! But I could be wrong, having not used any other distro for like 8 months now. But comparing to how apt, yum and smart had behaved on my system earlier, pacman is the creamy layer on the cake!

I need to do some serious studying on system calls and the memory management parts of Operating Systems, else this semester would seem a total waste for me. Telecommunication Systems didn’t turn out to be bad at all, its very interesting, being application-oriented. OOAD and DBMS passed by without notice since they are more necessities to learn than something you can ‘try and experiment’ with. Networks has me in a puzzle with so many header formats, but it was great to finally learn something in that field. I’ve got to implement programs to understand the standards more, which I haven’t till date. The EVS class ender with ‘An Inconvinient Truth’ being played was a fantastic way. That pretty much sums up my current semester. The semester where I literally fell asleep in class twice.

Now onto implementing some system calls in C, for the OS lab examinations.

Yahoo in news … and on a roll!

First, Microsoft realizes it has been living the life of an underdog in the major online market and plans its revenge the old style – Monopo.. err to buy what it needs to grow – Yahoo. Yahoo cleanly states “DO NOT WANT!” [Link]

Google gets worried about it, issues statements out, offers to help Yahoo by partnering it to avoid a monopoly by Microsoft. [Link]

Microsoft is not stopped by Yahoo’s refusal of their offer of some 40 “undervalued” billion dollars and gives Yahoo a death sentence of 3 weeks. Like “boot up or shut up” from Hackers (1995). [Link]

Yahoo rejects once more, and now, has partnered with Google Adsense to show Google ads on Yahoo search pages. [Link]

Oh my, what’s gonna happen to the Yahoo’s advertising feature I wonder …

Ice Age 3 – The Third Ice Age – Err …

I loved Ice Age (The Movie), the first part was very nice to watch with the humans involved and being a ‘real’ Ice Age themed movie.

Then came the second movie, Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, which was based on the melting of the ice. And Noah’s Ark. This one was way boring than its predecessor. Yet, the Scrat’s attempts to protect preserve and store his acorn never fails to amuse me. So’s gonna be the case for the upcoming Ice Age movie.

Say hello to Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.

Yup its Dinos alright, and they are gonna meet the rest of the crew – A sabretooth, a Sloth Bear and a Mammoth. Not to mention the amazing Scrat.

The movie’s gonna come in July next year (2009)

Gmail’s Chat gets invisible mode!

People should have been waiting only too long for such a wonderful stalking tool and now Google’s yet again satisfied them.

Gmail’s Chat module now has Invisible mode in it while the GTalk client still doesn’t have it. (Do they even actively develop the desktop version of it?)

Heath Ledger is dead

Yeah, just heard this sad news this morning

The actor Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon in an apartment in Manhattan, according to the New York City police. Signs pointed to a suicide or an accidental overdose, police sources said. Mr. Ledger was 28.

His film, Batman Begins, in which he plays The Joker, is coming out soon, and is his last
